In order to address these issues, the Indian government has implemented a number of schemes and programs aimed at promoting the rights and welfare of girl children. Some of the major schemes include:
- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme: launched in 2015, this scheme aims to improve the sex ratio and promote the education of girl children in India.
- Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY): launched in 2015, this scheme provides a small savings account for girl children to help with their education and marriage expenses.
- Balika Samriddhi Yojana (BSY): launched in 1992, this scheme provides financial assistance to families below the poverty line for the education and welfare of their girl child.
- Kishori Shakti Yojana (KSY): launched in 2000, this scheme aims to empower adolescent girls through education, training and skill development programs.
- Dhanalakshmi: launched in 2008, this scheme provides financial assistance for the marriage of girl children from economically weaker sections.
- Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (RGSEAG): launched in 2010, also known as Sabla, this scheme aims to empower and educate adolescent girls through various interventions and support systems.
- Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY): launched in 2010, this scheme provides financial assistance to pregnant and lactating women to improve their health and nutrition.
- Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY): launched in 2017, this scheme provides financial assistance for the first live birth of a girl child to help with her health and nutrition.
- Ladli Laxmi Yojana: launched in 2008, this scheme provides financial assistance for the education and welfare of girl children in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
- Kanyashree Prakalpa: launched in 2013, this scheme provides financial assistance to girls from economically weaker sections in the state of West Bengal to help with their education and empowerment.
