The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme is a government initiative launched in 2015 to improve the sex ratio and promote the education of girl children in India. The scheme focuses on three main areas:

  1. Preventing gender-biased sex selection: The scheme aims to create awareness and change social attitudes towards the girl child through campaigns and community mobilization.
  2. Ensuring survival and protection of the girl child: The scheme focuses on improving the sex ratio by ensuring the survival and protection of the girl child through interventions such as improving access to healthcare and nutrition.
  3. Ensuring education and participation of the girl child: The scheme aims to improve access to education for the girl child by providing scholarships and other financial assistance, as well as encouraging their participation in social and economic activities.

The scheme is implemented through a combination of Central and State government efforts, with a special focus on certain districts that have a low sex ratio. The scheme is being implemented in a time-bound, goal-oriented and result-oriented approach.
